After winning the national women”s football championship for the first time in eight years, Ha Tay won the women”s event of the National Sports Games beating Hanoi 5-4 in penalty shootout on April 17. Ho Chi Minh City won a bronze medal after trouncing Cua Ong Coal 4-1.

After winning the national women”s football championship for the first time in eight years, Ha Tay won the women”s event of the National Sports Games beating Hanoi 5-4 in penalty shootout on April 17. Ho Chi Minh City won a bronze medal after trouncing Cua Ong Coal 4-1. 

Hanoi played counterattacking football with only Tuyet Mai upfront. Consequently, their defensive line suffered heavy pressure from Ha Tay. In the 21st, 25th and 36th minutes, Nguyen Thi Ly, Minh Nguyet and Le Thi Oanh had opportunities to open the scoring but they were denied by goalkeeper Thuy Duong. The score 0-0 remained until full time and the sides had to compete in penalty shootout. Goalkeeper Thu Trang saved Le Thi Thuy”s shot. Captain Dao Thi Mien was successful in the final shot, helping Ha Tay win the women”s event of the National Sports Games.

Elsewhere, goals by Le Thi Hong Nga, Doan Thi Kim Chi and Tran Thi Kim Hong helped Ho Chi Minh City beat Cua Ong Coal 4-1 in third-placed play-off. Nguyen Thi Hien scored a consolation goal for Cua Ong Coal.
