Six Asian referees in the running for an appearance at the 2006 FIFA World Cup are set to attend a workshop in Frankfurt from March 2125 during which they will be put through an extensive medical check-up and fitness test.

The six AFC candidates are Khalil Ibrahim Al Ghamdi (Saudi Arabia), Toru Kamikawa (Japan), Jong Chul Kwon (Korea Republic), Shamsul Maidin (Singapore), Subkhiddin Mohd Salleh (Malaysia) and Masoud Moradi (Iran).

The candidates will also be tested on their knowledge of the rules and interpretation and their language skills. They will also be required to undergo a psychological test before being invited to a meeting with the members of the FIFA Referees Committee.

At its meeting in Zurich on March 31 the FIFA Referees Committee will decide which 30 or so referees and their assistants will ultimately be deployed at the World Cup finals.

The 44 candidates taking part in the Frankfurt workshop earlier attended an initial workshop at the same venue in February 2005. Afterwards they were required to demonstrate their ability in various international competitions, including several FIFA tournaments.
