V-League round 14: Bitter battle between Hanoi teams

V-League 2006 resumed its second leg of competition on the weekend after a three week break with a hotly contested affair between two Hanoi clubs in the 14^th round.

HN.ACB took out Hoa Phat Hanoi 2-1 in a heated encounter between the two long-time rivals. Fans were calling it a must see” game with the two teams headed in opposite directions in the standings and plenty of animosity between the clubs.

With two goals scored early in the game, the teams carried the 1-1 draw into the final minutes of the game before deciding the affair.

Three minutes into the game, the Brazilian Antonio Padilha was set up by a cross from Thanh Sang and headed home the opening goal for his side Hoa Phat Hanoi.

Just a minute later, Mauricio Giganti offered an intelligent pass to put his teammate Charles Mbabazi in the open to defeat the goal keeper, leveling the game at 1-1.

In the 89th minute, HN.ACB began with Pham Thanh Luong, best player in the national under-21 football championship with a low pass to Cao Sy Cuong speeding down the wing. He blasted a goal after collecting the pass to fix the 2-1 victory.

The hard fought affair left HN.ACB with no less than seven yellow cards, but the team moves up to second place with the win while Hoa Phat Hanoi was pushed down to 13th place on a 14 team table, pitting them in a relegation battle with Tien Giang.
