Vietnam League round 20: GDT.LA crowned Vietnam champions
GDT.LA were crowned Vietnam League champions despite losing 0-1 to SD.ND after closest challengers Da Nang and Binh Duong slipped up on Sunday.
GDT.LA”s maiden V-League title came with two more rounds left in the league.
Ngoc Linh”s 81st minute goal consigned the champions to their first loss since April but the result didn”t matter after Binh Duong were held 2-2 by P.SLNA and Da Nang were defeated 1-2 by TMN.CSG.
GDT.LA are now on 41 points and next meet P.SLNA on August 7. Binh Duong, who carried out a fine 5-0 demolition of Da Nang last week, lie in second with 35 points while the latter are one point further back.
Binh Duong have a chance to finish level with the champions if they win their remaining encounters against M.HP and LG.HN.ACB but GDT.LA”s better head-to-head record this season has tilted the balance firmly in the latter”s favour.
In the other Sunday games, HA.GL defeated M.HP 1-0 while HP.HN edged past D.DT 2-1.
