Vietnam defeated Chinese Taipei 3-1 in their second match of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers held at the Thanh Long Sports Complex stadium in Ho Chi Minh City on March 26, ensuring a berth in the final round.

Ngoc Cham scored four goals in two matches

Coach Chen Yun Fat’s selection of 3-5-2 tactic for Vietnam proved effective as the hosts dominated the game, launching a series of attacks. In the seventh minute, Ngoc Cham received a cross from Thi Thanh and scored a goal with a header, her third goal of the tournament thus far.

Two minutes later, Chinese Taipei scored their only goal at the ninth minute from a penalty kick.

Ngoc Cham continued to shine and in the 21st minute she broke the off-side trap and scored with a long range shot which went through the goalkeeper.

In the second half, Ngoc Cham was closely marked by the guests’ defenders and therefore coach Chen Yun Fat decided to push Minh Nguyet and Kim Chi, 2007 Golden Ball player, up front.

The flexible performance of Vietnam once again foiled the visitor’s tactic. Just six minutes after the break, Kim Chi broke through their lines, controlled the ball with one touch and tapped it into the net.

Vietnam had several more good opportunities however, the game ended with 3-1 win forVietnam.

Vietnam now have six points after two wins and lead the group. The door to the final round of the tournament has opened wide to Vietnam. Tomorrow, Vietnam will meet Myanmar.

In another match of the group on the same day, Myanmar beat Iran 2-1.
