The expansion of the Vision Vietnam project took an important step on Tuesday with the start of AFC delegation’s assessment visit to this Southern Vietnamese city.

An intensive programme of meetings and field visits will take place over the next three days to enable the Vision Asia team to understand the structure of football in Vietnam and to agree the appropriate goals for football development in the city.
Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, Head of the Sports Division of the Ho Chi Minh Sports Department, Le Hung Dung, President of Ho Chi Minh City Football Federation and Nguyen Huu Bang, Deputy General Secretary of the Vietnam Football Federation were present at the opening ceremony. The officials in charge of football in the city’s 24 district sports centres also attended the function.
In his opening address, Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) Vice-President Le Hung Dung, who is also the president of HCM Football Federation, welcomed the opportunity provided to football in HCMC through its selection for the Vision Vietnam Project.
“There is a strong football culture in HCM and it is the people’s sport. I look forward to working with the AFC Vision Asia Team to strengthening it in many areas. I thank the AFC President, Mohamed Bin Hammam, for his vision and his commitment to football development throughout Asia.”
AFC Director of Vision Asia Project, Brendan Menton, welcomed the expansion of the Vision Vietnam Project.
“Football in Vietnam has made good progress in recent years. Implementation of Vision Vietnam inHCMCity will provide a strong foundation for further improvement,” he said.
The AFC delegation also includes AFC Director of Coach Education, Scott O’Donell, AFC Grassroots and Youth Development Officer Dr Shamil Kamil, AFC Referees Development Officer Mohamed Ameez and Vision Asia Development Officer Kaita Sugihara.
