National team leave for UAE clash

The Vietnam national football team left on October 25 for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for their second leg clash on October 28.

The Vietnam national football team left on October 25 for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for their second leg clash on October 28.

The Vietnam team lost 1-0 in their home game, and have an uphill task in the UAE, but coach Alfred Riedl and his men said they were confident of getting a good result.

The coach was quoted on the Vietnam Football Federation’s website as saying that he was having strong squad and all players were determined to gain a good result.

Captain Nguyen Minh Phuong said before leaving that despite racing the uphill task of having to win in the UAE, he and teammates would give their all to earn the best result.  

The team will be missing fullback Doan Viet Cuong, who failed to recover from an injury and centreback Nguyen Thanh Long Giang was called up as a replacement.

Assistant coach Tran Cong Minh will not travel to the UAE with the team as he is busy training the under-23 team, who will compete at an invitational tournament, the Agribank Cup, due to kick off on November 1.
