Mr Nguyen Trong Hy, vice chairman of the National Sports and Physical Training Committee, was voted in as the new president of the Vietnam Football Federation.
The 58-year-old Trong Hy said: “This will be a great challenge for me and the other executive members. There are changes that need to be made. I have to gather the best experts to help Vietnam football become better in the next four years.”
He also expressed hope that the national team would do well in the SEA Games in Manila later this year. Vietnam has never won the gold medal at the SEA Games. “The SEA Games in the Philippines this December will be my first test.”
During the two-day meeting, 39 members were elected to the VFF executive board.
Mr Tran Quoc Tuan, vice-director of the Institute for Science and Sports Medicine, as the new general secretary. He replaces acting general secretary Phan Anh Tu who held the position temporarily after Pham Ngoc Vien resigned.
Le Hung Dung was elected the vice-chairman position and will be in charge of finance and marketing. The second vice-chairman post went to legendary footballer, Le The Tho.
The Tho, 64, was the skipper of the Vietnamese team in the 60s. He is currently an assistant to the Minister of Sports and Physical Training.
Vu Quang Vinh, the Editor-in-chief of a newspaper, was voted in as the third vice-chairman and will handle media relations.
The VFF elections are held every four years.
