The Binh Duong Television Cup opened Friday with host team Binh Duong taking on defending champs Tampines Rovers from Singapore in a wildly contested affair.

With new coach Doan Minh Xuong at the helm, the host team started off with a wave of attacks against the defending champs.

Binh Duong opened the scoring in the middle of the first half, after a blunder by a Singapore defender meant the Rovers scored on their own net.

The host team was up 2-1 after a coordinated attack directed by Binh Duong”s two foreigner starters. Catching a pass from the left side, Amaobi blasted a pass into Singapore”s net catching the goalkeeper off guard.

Tampines Rovers fought hard to level the score at 2-2 during injury time with a header by striker Grabovac to save the day.

Both teams may have come away satisfied with the tie, but Binh Duong had to be shaking their heads after being only minutes away from the win.

In a later game, China”s Hsia-men beat Vietnam”s Saigon Port 2-0.

The Binh Duong Television Cup is an international tournament that is sanctioned by the Asian Football Confederation and the Vietnam Football Federation.
