Hosts held as under-21 tournament kicks off

Hosts Khatoco Khanh Hoa were held to a 0-0 draw by Da Nang as the under-21 football tournament, sponsored by Thanh Nien newspaper, kicked off on October 11.

In another match, PVFC Song Lam Nghe An edged Dong Tam Long An with a late winner by Nguyen Dinh Hiep.

Khatoco Khanh Hoa were the better side, creating many chances but failed to break the deadlock.

Ro Lam Dem’s close range backheel beat goalkeeper Thanh Binh, but was hacked away by fullback Huu Hung after six minutes.

The hosts came close again with Thanh Hai firing just centimetres wide.

Da Nang’s clear chance in the first half went to Phan Thanh Phuc, who was denied by Van Thach.

The hosts continued to dominate the game after the break. Khaotoco Khanh Hoa skipper Quang Hai came closest as he hit the post three minutes from time.

Da Nang were denied two minutes later, as Ngoc Thong’s finish was cleared off the line.

In another match, deserved PVFC Song Lam Nghe An made a good start to top Group A, beating Dong Tam Long An 1-0.
