Vietnam secured the silver medal at the 2013 AFF U-19 Youth Championship after loosing 7-6 to Indonesia in a tense penalty shoot-out at Gelora Delta Sidoarjo Stadium on September 22.

Enthusiastically supported by home fans, Indonesia kicked off the match confidently by creating quick attacks. However, Vietnam footballers regained the initiative and put strong pressure on their rival’s goal.
Vietnamcontrolled the ball and created many real opportunities to open the scoring but failed to rally past Indonesia’s solid defense and couldn’t find the goal in the first half.
In the early second half, U19 Vietnam continued to overwhelm their rival while U19 Indonesia committed more fouls.
At the 51st minute, Vietnam’s striker Cong Phuong took a devilish free-kick which was diverted by Indonesia’s talented goal keeper Mudianto.
With a solid way of playing and better physical fitness, U19 Indonesian footballers took the offensive by concerted efforts. However, the team couldn’t score any goal.
During the 30 minutes of extra time, both teams were unsuccessful in converting any chances into goals.
The 0-0 draw forced the match to be decided on penalties. Indonesia prevailed 7-6 in a tense shoot-out to take away the 2013 AFF U-19 Youth Championship while Vietnam claimed the second position.
In another match, East Timor beat Laos 4-2 to bring home the bronze medal.
