Strengthened forces, U23 Vietnam accelerates training to prepare for the 2023 AFF U23 Championship
With a force that has become “stronger” when has just been reinforced with 5 quality players, the U23 Vietnam has accelerated the training rotation to have the best preparation for the 2023 AFF U23 Championship.

The training session on the afternoon of August 7 of the U23 Vietnam team took place in cool weather. The force of the team also became more crowded with the presence of 5 new players joining the team, that is defender Nguyen Van Trieu, midfielder Nguyen Duc Viet, striker Nguyen Quoc Viet of HAGL, defender Le Van Ha from SHB Da Nang and striker Nguyen Minh Quang from Binh Thuan Club.
Due to the late gathering with the team, the newly strengthened group of players was very active in practicing and trying to integrate with the lesson plan of head coach Hoang Anh Tuan.
In an interview before the training session, striker Nguyen Quoc Viet said that the late gathering did not affect he much because Viet had previously spent a long time working with coach Hoang Anh Tuan. “I haven’t played much in the V-League, so what I need to improve now is my physical strength and tactical skills,” Quoc Viet said.
Quoc Viet is considered as one of the outstanding young strikers of Vietnamese football. Under the guidance of coach Hoang Anh Tuan, the striker from Nutifood JMG academy showed impressive scoring form with the only goal that brought U20 Vietnam 1-0 victory over U20 Australia and also the who opened the scoring in U20 Vietnam’s 2-1 victory over U20 Qatar at the 2023 AFC U20 Championship.
Quoc Viet is very determined at the upcoming 2023 AFF U23 Championship. “My motto is that in any tournament, you have to do well with your teammates. As the defending champions, we will have to work together with the utmost determination to achieve the best results in the upcoming AFF’s tournament,” Quoc Viet emphasized.
Besides Quoc Viet, on the attack of U23 Vietnam, there is also the presence of rookie Nguyen Minh Quang (No. 10). The main striker of Binh Thuan club was first experienced in the U23 Vietnam.
Minh Quang impressed in the 2023 National First Division when leading the scoring list, with 8 goals scored so far. “The first time I was given the opportunity to join the U23 Vietnam was a great honor for me. I will try to complete the task well,” Minh Quang shared with the press before the training session of U23 Vietnam.
Binh Thuan’s striker said that his strengths are speed and finishing ability. However, in U23 Vietnam, the competitive edge is very high, so Minh Quang will have to make a lot of efforts to have the opportunity to go to the international arena for the first time. “If I get to participate in the AFF U23 Championship, my first international tournament, I will try my best to complete the task. Because this is my great honor,” Minh Quang said.
Nguyen Duc Viet is also one of the players who attracted attention at the August 7 afternoon training session of U23 Vietnam. This midfielder is one of the few young players to play the most in the V.League and is also a student of coach Hoang Anh Tuan at the 2023 AFC U20 Championship. Therefore, Duc Viet did not have many difficulties to catch up with U23 Vietnam.
The U23 Vietnam squad in this gathering is mostly U18-U20 players. However, many players have an ideal body shape with a height of over 1m8. Van Trieu (number 12) is one of them.
Coach Philippe Troussier and Assistant Moulay Azzeggouarh exchanged information with coach Hoang Anh Tuan. The French military leader is very interested in the U23 Vietnam to attend the 2023 AFF U23 Championship. Outstanding faces will be summoned to the U23 Vietnam to prepare for the 2024 Asian U23 Qualifier in the coming September.
