On the morning of March 18, leaders of Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Vietnam Sports Adminstration and VFF had a meeting to encourage the spirit of the Vietnam team before traveling for Indonesia to compete in the first leg of the 2026 World Cup Asia 2nd Qualifiers.

In his speech to encourage the team’s spirit, Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong affirmed that the leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism have always followed the team’s training process in recent times. Leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism praised the team’s spirit and concentration for the upcoming two important matches against Indonesia. Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong noted the positive features in the team’s playing style and believed that the Vietnam team would get good results in their trip to Jakarta on March 21 and then the home match at My Dinh on March 26. “I hope that the players will play with the highest spirit, follow the tactics, take advantage of the opportunity to get good results as a premise for the home match on March 26. If we achieve good results, we will expand our opportunities to advance to the 3rd qualifying round and affirm our position in the international arena” – Deputy Minister emphasized.
Following the Deputy Minister’s opinion, head coach Philippe Troussier affirmed that the targer of the Vietnam team is to win. “Winning also means realizing the goal of going deeper and further in the Asian arena. However, the goal we want to achieve is not easy. The players sitting here are all warriors. They always try their best every day, proving every day, in every training session, towards the goal of not only winning, but also how to win” – coach Philippe Troussier said.
The French coach also affirmed that all 33 players on the summon list deserve a place in the next two matches. However, according to regulations, the Vietnam team still has to eliminate 5 players before departure. “Whether the players are eliminated or on the final list, they are all a team. We are representatives with pride and national spirit but are also wise in tactics on the field” – said coach Philippe Troussier.
President of Vietnam Football Federation Tran Quoc Tuan said that the Vietnam team has been receiving great attention and investment for important upcoming goals. To repeat the achievement of reaching the third qualifying round of the World Cup is very difficult when opponents also increase investment and prepare carefully. However, VFF believes that with the Vietnamese people’s spirit of not giving up and always having the will to overcome difficulties, the team will complete the set goals and meet the expectations of fans.
Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan also shared that to prepare for the first leg in Indonesia, Vietnam Football Federation sent the Director of National Teams Department Doan Anh Tuan directly to carry out advance work very early to ensure all food, accommodation, living and training conditions for the team. Yesterday, the advance team also went to Indonesia to prepare well for welcoming the team. President of Vietnam Football Federation Tran Quoc Tuan wished the team to be strong and successfully complete their assigned tasks.
As planned, after the training session on March 18, head coach Philippe Troussier will finalize the list of 28 players for the trip to Gelora Bung Karno Stadium. The entire team will leave for Indonesia on the morning of March 19. Here, he and his players will have two more training sessions to complete the final preparations for the match with the host team on March 21. After the match, the Vietnamese team will return to practice, preparing for the second leg taking place on March 26 at My Dinh Stadium.
