Held at the headquarters of the VFF, 66 doctors, physiotherapists and allied medical personnel received updates on the latest knowledge in sports medicine and refreshed their clinical skills through training delivered by experts from the AFC Panel of Sports Medicine.
The specialist team was led by AFC Medical Committee Chairperson Dato’ Dr. Gurcharan Singh, and assisted by VFF Head of Medicine and AFC Medical Committee member Dr. Nguyen Van Phu and Associate Professor Dr. Farrah-Hani Imran.
Attended by participants hailing from various domestic league clubs, the course is specifically designed to discuss topics such as emergency medical situations on the field of play, nutrition, prevention of injuries, football-specific medical examinations, and anti-doping matters.
The experts will also highlight the importance of having appropriate minimal medical infrastructure, supplies and equipment during competitions and training to protect the health and safety of athletes, among other topics.
Emphasising the need to equip medical teams with the best practices of sports medicine, AFC Medical Committee Chairperson Dato’ Dr. Gurcharan Singh said: “Medical teams must have the expertise to provide the necessary care for their players. To execute their duties successfully, they should be up to date on the latest internationally recognised standards, and this course was specially designed to meet all of these goals.”
Tran Anh Tu, the VFF Vice President, said: “This course is a significant step in enhancing the medical work of the VFF to meet the requirements of FIFA and the AFC in managing health and preventing and treating injuries within the Federation’s competition and training system. It demonstrates the VFF’s commitment to ensure that the highest standards of medical care are available for Vietnam’s footballers.”
With the welfare of its players being at the forefront of the AFC’s ambitions, the course was yet another indication of the Confederation’s steadfast efforts towards maximising the potential of its MAs.
