Coach Kim Sang-sik has a high regard for the upcoming match against Russia. He shared: “Russia is a very strong team, and the upcoming match will be very challenging for the Vietnamese national team. However, I see it as a new challenge. The important thing is that we are not afraid, we move forward, and aim for the best possible result…”
Coach Kim Sang-sik announced that he has had a conversation and decided to give Đặng Văn Lâm, the goalkeeper of Vietnamese-Russian heritage, the opportunity to play in the match against Russia at the LPBank Cup 2024.
“Đặng Văn Lâm and Filip Nguyễn are both talented goalkeepers. I know that Văn Lâm grew up in Russia, and I will give him the chance to play. I have also spoken with Văn Lâm and understand that facing Russia is a dream match for him,” Coach Kim Sang-sik said at a press conference on the afternoon of September 4.
Đặng Văn Lâm, who has Vietnamese and Russian heritage, recently expressed his excitement about the opportunity to represent Vietnam in a match against Russia.
Regarding the upcoming match against Russia, Coach Kim Sang-sik has a high regard for the challenge it presents. He shared: “Russia is a very strong team, and the upcoming match will be very difficult for the Vietnam national team. However, I see this as a new challenge. It doesn’t matter how strong the opponent is; what’s important is that we are not afraid, we move forward, and aim for the best possible result.
This challenge will demonstrate the players’ efforts, allow them to gain experience, refine their skills, and develop patience for future matches.
I have analyzed Russia’s recent games, including both the playing style of their players and the tactics of their coach. I am very impressed with the PSG goalkeeper, Matvei Safonov, and the coaching staff has also met to evaluate the opponent.”
Coach Kim continued: “Most of my players have just finished the V.League season and are ready to play 90 minutes. The Vietnam national team is well-prepared, and I am confident they will give their best.
In this friendly tournament, the Vietnam team includes 8 new players, with the return of Quế Ngọc Hải and Phan Văn Đức. In the previous match against the Philippines, I used many experienced players, but in the upcoming game, there will be more new faces. These players represent the future of Vietnamese football.”
At the same press conference, center-back Quế Ngọc Hải expressed his determination: “I am very excited about the match against Russia tomorrow. Russia is a top team in the world. Playing against them will provide many lessons for the Vietnam national team.
This will certainly be a memorable experience for the players. Both of Vietnam’s opponents this time have high levels of skill and will present many challenges. These matches will serve as a good preparation for upcoming tournaments, especially the AFF Cup 2024.
We have discussed the requirements of the head coach and specifically focused on studying the strengths of Russia’s attacking lineup. Of course, with such a strong opponent, our defense needs to be particularly attentive. We will strive to perform well in the next 90 minutes and deliver an outstanding performance for our fans.”
