International friendly match, the Vietnam Women’s Futsal National Team vs Russia Women’s Futsal National Team: 1-6
In the second match against the Russia Women’s Futsal National Team, Coach Nguyễn Đình Hoàng’s squad showed noticeable improvement compared to their previous encounter with the world’s 7th-ranked team. This match marked the completion of their domestic training phase as they prepare to participate in the 2024 ASEAN Women’s Futsal Championship.
Right after the opening whistle, the European players quickly put pressure on the Vietnam Women’s Futsal team’s goal. However, the outstanding performance of goalkeeper Trần Thị Hải Yến kept Vietnam in the game, as she made at least five crucial saves. Despite her heroic efforts, Vietnam conceded only one goal in the 6th minute.
In the second half, the Russian Women’s Futsal team quickly doubled their lead in the 27th minute with a surprise shot that found the far post. Less than a minute later, Vietnam conceded a third goal. Trailing by three goals, the Vietnam Women’s Futsal team switched to a power-play strategy for the remaining time. This approach allowed them to score one goal, with Thanh Ngân finding the back of the net. However, Vietnam’s defense was breached three more times, and the match ended with a 6-1 victory for the visiting Russian team.
Commenting on his team’s performance, Coach Nguyễn Đình Hoàng said: “After the first friendly match yesterday, the team learned many valuable lessons and performed better in today’s game. However, there are still areas that need improvement in the upcoming training sessions. Counter-attacks and set-piece defense are current weaknesses that the coaching staff must address. Nevertheless, we are very satisfied with the players’ spirit and playing style in both matches. Russia is a strong opponent with excellent individual skills and high game intensity, which caused us to lose control of their movements and tactics. These two matches serve as the final assessment after three weeks of training in preparation for the upcoming Southeast Asian Championship. The coaching staff will review the mistakes and work on refining them in the next training sessions.”
As planned, the Vietnam Women’s Futsal team will have three more days of training before departing for the Philippines on November 14 to compete in the 2024 ASEAN Women’s Futsal Championship.
