2024 ASEAN Women’s Futsal Championship: Vietnam Women’s Futsal Team easily defeats Indonesia

In the first match, Indonesia made Thailand struggle hard to secure a 1-0 victory, but in the game against Vietnam’s Women’s Futsal Team, they conceded 5 unanswered goals.

Recognizing the opponent’s strengths in terms of physicality and pressing play, the Vietnam Women’s Futsal Team approached the match with great focus. This serious attitude allowed Coach Nguyễn Đình Hoàng’s team to get off to a strong start, taking a 1-0 lead in the first minute. With a brilliant combination play that disrupted Indonesia’s defensive system, Phương Anh curled the ball into the near corner, sending it into the back of the net and giving Vietnam the lead. The early goal effectively neutralized Indonesia’s defensive strategy, allowing Vietnam to dominate in attack as the Indonesian team was forced to push forward in search of an equalizer.

In the 5th minute, Vietnam’s Women’s Futsal Team doubled their lead with a throw-in from Thanh Bằng. Phương Anh crossed the ball to Bùi Thị Trang, who scored with a header to make it 2-0. Shortly after, Thanh Hằng provided an assist for Bùi Thị Trang, who slotted the ball home to extend the lead to 3-0. Then, in the 12th minute, Thùy Trang delivered a cross that Biện Thị Hằng finished with a precise strike, further increasing the gap.

With a tight match schedule, playing one game per day, and no need to chase goals since the top two teams would advance to the final, the Vietnam Women’s Futsal Team deliberately slowed the tempo in the second half to conserve energy for the upcoming challenges. This strategy also allowed Coach Nguyễn Đình Hoàng to test his team’s defensive system by allowing Indonesia more possession of the ball. As a result of these tactics, the Vietnam team had very few chances to attack in the second half.

In defense, the players gained valuable experience under the pressure from Indonesia, but they successfully kept a clean sheet. In the final minutes, Indonesia employed a power-play strategy, which provided an opportunity for Vietnam’s Women’s Futsal Team to score again. After regaining possession in the 38th minute, Thanh Ngân took a long-range shot that went directly into the empty net, sealing the victory with a 5-0 scoreline.

In the next match, Thailand’s Women’s Futsal Team continued their winning streak with a 2-1 victory over Myanmar, maintaining their position at the top of the standings with 9 points.

With 6 points from 2 matches, Vietnam’s Women’s Futsal Team secured second place in the table, almost guaranteeing one of the top two spots to advance to the final of the 2024 AFF Women’s Futsal Championship, scheduled for November 21.

On the afternoon of November 19, Vietnam will face the Philippines at 18:00 (Vietnam time).
