Entering the match with confidence after two recent dominant 4-0 wins over Malaysia, Coach Cristiano Roland’s players quickly pushed forward and actively attacked right from the kick-off. Meanwhile, U17 Malaysia opted for a defensive approach with a low defensive line.

In the 8th minute, Vietnam U17 had a chance to open the scoring when Sy Bach broke through and shot from a narrow angle, hitting the post. However, just a few minutes later, the deadlock was broken. In the 11th minute, from a corner kick combination, Quý Vương delivered a decisive shot, putting Vietnam U17 ahead 1-0.

After conceding the goal, U17 Malaysia still did not push their lines forward, creating an opportunity for U17 Vietnam to continue applying pressure. The team repeatedly earned corner kicks and generated several dangerous chances. In the 43rd minute, Nguyễn Lực executed a powerful free kick, but goalkeeper Adam made an excellent save.

Vietnam U17’s dominance was further reflected in added time of the first half. In the 45+4th minute, from a dribbling run down the left wing, Nguyễn Lực provided an assist for Văn Dương to accelerate and take a shot. The ball hit the crossbar before entering the net, increasing the score to 2-0.

Entering the second half, U17 Vietnam continued to control the game. In the 55th minute, from a quick counterattack, Trí Dũng sprinted down the right flank and crossed to Văn Dương, who finished to score past Malaysia. After consulting VAR, the referee confirmed the goal, increasing Vietnam U17’s lead to 3-0.

With a three-goal advantage, the team proactively slowed down the pace of the match, maintained possession, and prevented the opponents from creating any breakthroughs. In the remaining minutes, Vietnam U17 still generated some dangerous situations, but no additional goals were scored.

Ultimately, Vietnam U17 won 3-0, convincingly claiming the championship this year. This is their sixth final appearance in the tournament’s history, and their fourth time winning the title, after 2006, 2010, and 2017.

With this achievement, U17 Vietnam officially made history as the most successful team in the tournament, surpassing Thailand and Australia (both with 3 titles each).

Not only did they win the championship, but U17 Vietnam also received major individual awards. Midfielder Chu Ngọc Nguyễn Lực was awarded the title of Best Player of the tournament, while goalkeeper Lý Xuân Hòa was named Best Goalkeeper.

After the match, on behalf of the Standing Committee, Chairman Trần Quốc Tuấn congratulated the entire team, acknowledging the outstanding performance of the players. Chairman Trần Quốc Tuấn also emphasized the importance of maintaining their form and focusing on the best preparation for the AFC U17 Championship 2026, scheduled for early May.

The Southeast Asia Championship 2026 title is not only a proud milestone but also an important stepping stone for U17 Vietnam to aim for greater achievements on the continental stage.

The national U17 men’s football team, consisting of 39 members, returned home on April 26, expected to land at 6:15 PM at Nội Bài International Airport. The team will continue training at the Vietnam Football Federation until May 3 before departing for Saudi Arabia to participate in the AFC U17 Championship 2026.
