Following their impressive 2-2 draw against Russia in the opening match, Diego Raul Giustozzi’s side carried their momentum into the clash with New Zealand. Vietnam began the match confidently and created a dangerous chance within the opening seconds, only to be denied by the New Zealand goalkeeper.

Vietnam maintained relentless pressure, and their dominance was rewarded in the fourth minute. A well-worked attacking move ended with Trịnh Công Đại applying the finishing touch to give Vietnam a deserved 1-0 lead.

For the remainder of the first half, Vietnam dominated possession and repeatedly launched attacks on the New Zealand goal. Despite creating several clear-cut opportunities, the men in red were unable to extend their advantage before the interval.

Vietnam continued to control proceedings after the restart. However, against the run of play, New Zealand equalised in the 30th minute when Osey found the back of the net to make it 1-1.

Conceding the equaliser did little to unsettle Diego Raul Giustozzi’s side. Just three minutes later, Vietnam regained the lead through Châu Đoàn Phát, who finished off a swift counter-attack to make it 2-1.

Buoyed by the goal, Vietnam continued to press forward. In the 35th minute, Nguyễn Thịnh Phát extended the advantage to 3-1 before Trần Thái Huy sealed an emphatic 4-1 victory with a goal in the 37th minute.

In the closing stages, the coaching staff took the opportunity to give several young players valuable match experience. As a result, New Zealand enjoyed more possession, but they were unable to break down Vietnam’s well-organised defence or threaten another comeback.

With a convincing 4-1 victory, the Vietnam futsal team moved onto four points from their opening two matches at the 2026 Continental Futsal Championship Invitational in Thailand, having recorded one draw and one win.

Vietnam will return to action in their next fixture against Afghanistan at 20:30 (local time) on 3 August.
