Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong commends U23 Vietnam after victory over Philippines

Also attending the meeting were Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Sports Authority and Head of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation at ASIAD 2026; Mr. Nguyen Trong Ho, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Sports Authority; and Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan, President of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and Head of the Men’s Football Competition Operations Committee at ASIAD 2026.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong praised U23 Vietnam’s competitive spirit, particularly their determination to overcome difficulties and challenges to secure victory over U23 Philippines. He acknowledged the efforts of the entire team and encouraged the players to remain focused and make thorough preparations for their final group-stage match against U23 Uzbekistan.

The 2-0 victory over U23 Philippines gave U23 Vietnam four points from two matches, providing them with an additional opportunity to compete for a place in the quarter-finals. However, Dinh Hong Vinh’s side still face a major challenge ahead, with U23 Uzbekistan regarded as the strongest team in Group C.

In his capacity as Head of the Men’s Football Competition Operations Committee at ASIAD 2026, VFF President Tran Quoc Tuan has remained closely involved in U23 Vietnam’s journey despite his extensive responsibilities at the tournament, as well as following the Vietnam Women’s National Team since both teams arrived in Japan.

On behalf of the VFF Standing Executive Committee, President Tran Quoc Tuan encouraged the entire team to maintain discipline in their daily activities and training, uphold team unity and remain fully focused on their match against U23 Uzbekistan, with the immediate objective of progressing from the group stage at ASIAD 2026.
