On the morning of October 8, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) held a specialist training session on “Nutrition in Football and Injury Prevention” for the national men’s U17 team. The session was part of the squad’s preparations for the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2026.

The session was led by Nguyễn Ngọc Trâm Anh, a sports nutrition specialist with a master’s degree from Liverpool John Moores University in the United Kingdom. Vietnam’s U17 coaching staff and players also attended.

The programme covered four main topics: sports nutrition in football; nutrition before, during and after training and matches; basic principles for preventing injuries; and ways to build healthy habits around nutrition, recovery and body care to help reduce injury risk.

Players received practical guidance on diet, energy needs, fuelling for training and competition, physical recovery, and taking an active role in caring for and protecting their bodies. They also had the opportunity to ask questions about issues they encounter in their daily training and matches.

For Vietnam’s U17 team, the session was part of preparations for the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2026, where head coach Cristiano Roland’s side will have the chance to compete against some of the world’s top youth teams.

In modern football, alongside developing technical and tactical skills and improving fitness, sound nutrition and proactive injury prevention are essential to boosting performance, maintaining physical condition and protecting players’ long-term health.

This knowledge is particularly important for U17 players, who are undergoing rapid physical and athletic development.

“These are among the final preparations for our journey to the FIFA U-17 World Cup. I hope that, with thorough preparation, Vietnam U17 will bring a new image and new knowledge to the tournament, and strive for new achievements,” said VFF General Secretary Nguyễn Văn Phú.

With the aim of preparing players not only on the pitch but also equipping them with the knowledge and skills to care for themselves, programmes like this will help Vietnam U17 make a more complete preparation for their campaign at the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2026.
