Format change to Mekong Club Championship 2015
There will be a change in format to the Mekong Club Championship 2015 where teams will no longer play at one venue but instead shift to a home-and-away…
And while last year only four champion club teams from Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia took part in the inaugural meet that was played in Vietnam, this time round, there will also be a side from Thailand.
But only the champions of Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar will play in the preliminary competition with the winner earning the ticket to take on the Vietnamese champions in the semifinal at Hanoi’s Hang Day Stadium.
The winner of that tie will then play the Thai champions in the final at Bangkok’s Supachalasai Stadium for the USD 75,000 prize money.
“This year, the competition will be held in all five countries on the Mekong, which will make it more exciting for the home fans,” said Kyoichi Tanada, the chairman of Toyota Asia Pacific.
The runners-up team will take home USD 50,000 while third-placed side will earn USD 30,000. The fourth and fifth-placed clubs win USD 10,000 and USD 5,000 respectively.
