Achievement of the Men’s National team at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Asian Qualifier is the premise for the development of Vietnamese football
Men’s National Team finished the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Asian Qualifier as the runner of group G and made the historical step when joining into the 3rd qualifier. Follow is an interview with VFF Vice Permanent President Tran Quoc Tuan about the journey of the team and the preparation plan.

Can you share about the recent journey of the Vietnam team?
Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan: We are very proud of all players. The team worked very hard, got over difficulties in the last matches of the 2nd qualifier, and reached the historical mission. With this achievement, the team joins in the final round of the Asian Cup 2023. It brings happiness to football’s persons and Vietnamese fans.
VFF and the team had good preparation, even gathered in the situation of COVID-19 pandemic. The details were deeply discussed and had a good result. This is a premise for success as well as a challenge when face with the strongest teams in Asia. This will be the chance for players to self-assessment, practice, and closer with the high level to build the foundation for the development of Vietnamese Football.
According to the plan, the final qualifier round will kick off in September. So what is the plan of the team?
On Jun 01, AFC will draw to divide 12 teams into 2 groups. This round will play with 2 legs. It means that from now until the middle of 2022, 10 legs need to be organised to find put 4.5 teams in Asia joining FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Final. After the drawing, VFF and coaching assistants will make a detailed plan to create the best condition for players. This is a difficult mission because the teams who play in this round are the strong teams in the region and the world. It required serious preparation. Through this chance, the qualification of the team, as well as each member, will increase and closer to the world-class level.
It can be said that the success of the Vietnam team comes from the careful preparation of VFF, especially in the prevention of pandemic, help the players of the Vietnamese team have good playing conditions at the club level and be safe when gathering. How does this give the team an advantage before entering the final match?
Since 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic started affecting, VFF Executive Committee affirmed one key content in the preparation of the World Cup Qualifier was maintain the domestic competition. With the difficulties due to the pandemic, we couldn’t organise the overseas training camp, so the domestic competitions had a big value. With the support of clubs, MAs, the competitions had done with high quality. This is a basic thing to support the team that can adapt to high demand when gathering.
Since working as head coach of the national team, Mr. Park Hang-seo has made positive changes that bringing Vietnamese Football to significant advancements and many successes. As a manager, how do you evaluate the changes of Coach Park Hang-seo?
Mr. Park Hang-seo has come and worked with Vietnamese Football for 4 years. He found out a suitable style for Vietnamese Football, in which the discipline and tactics are placed on top. Besides that, we are having a good generation through the training of the clubs. The investment of VFF for youth teams has increased, therefore, young players can join the international arena and get familiar with region opponents.
Our young players are more mature and early adapt to the high-level environment. This was extended when Mr. Park in charge of the team and create a suitable solution to reduce the weakness and increase physical strength as well as tactics thinking.
