AFF confirms the date of the official draw of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2020
AFF confirms the date of the official draw of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2020. According to that, this event will be held at 2 p.m (GMT+7) on Sep 21 in Singapore.
Before that, this event was planned to organize on Aug 10 in Singapore with the engagement of MAs and participant teams. However, this event could not be organized as the plan because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on the current circumstance, AFF decides to organize the official draw online.
To prepare for this event, AFF divides 10 teams into the pots. Pot 1 includes Vietnam and Thailand; Pot 2 includes the Philippines and Myanmar; Pot 3 includes Malaysia and Singapore; Pot 4 includes Indonesia and Cambodia; Pot 5 includes Laos and Brunei or Timor-Leste (play-off).
10 teams will stand in 2 groups. In which, as the teams in pot 1, Vietnam and Thailand will be stand in different groups.
Last year, AFF decided to postpone the AFF Suzuki Cup 2020. According to the proposal of the AFF Competition Committee to AFF Broad, the tournament will be organized from 05 Dec 2021 to 01 Jan 2022. AFF is discussing with MAs and relevant units to update as soon as the plan.
AFF President Khiev Sameth said that even determine to organize with the full format and schedule included the home-away matches in all groups, AFF is also preparing other plans to adapt to the COVID-19 pandemic.
