Malaysia and Myanmar made a good start at the Southeast Asian under-20 football championship in Ho Chi Minh City as they beat Singapore and Laos, respectively.
Malaysia beat Singapore 3-0 while Myanmar outplayed Laos, winning 4-0.
In the first match, Malaysia had to wait until the 30th minute to open the scoring through a goal by Yusaini.
The young Lions” task became more difficult as they were reduced to ten men with Nurhazwan sent off for a second yellow card.
With a numerical advantage, Malaysia extended their lead seven minutes before half-time through a goal by Saarani.
After the break, Malaysia continued to dominate the game and Azizul made it 3-0 on the hour mark.
With 15 minutes left, Malaysia went down to ten men with Kandasamy sent off.
Singapore failed to get back into the game.
In a later match, Myanmar outplayed Laos with a smashing 4-0 victory. Kyaw Kyaw Khine, Aung Kyaw Myo, Myint Naing and Zin Myo Aung scored for the defending champions.
