Both teams already knew they could not qualify for Rio this summer with Viet Nam having lost all three previous games and Japan’s hopes were crushed after China secured a narrow victory against S. Korea in an earlier game.
Japan’s Iwabuchi opened the scoring in the 39th minute. Three minutes later, Huynh Nhu scored an equaliser from the penalty shot, Viet Nam’s only goal so far in the tournament.
Shinobu Ono restored the lead for Japan right before half time. During the last ten minutes of the game Nahomi Kawasaumi, Emi Nakajima, Yuki Ogimi and Kumi Yokoyama all found the net for Japan, completing a crushing victory for the hosts.
Meanwhile, Australia secured their place at Rio this summer after a 2-1 win over North Korea with goals from Michelle Heyman and Katrina Gorry while China qualified for Rio after their 1-0 defeat of S Korea.
