2 Vietnamese referees are appointed to officiate at Women’s Olympic Football Tournament
Recently, FIFA has appointed two female referees from Vietnam, including referee Le Thi Ly (Ho Chi Minh City) and assistant referee Ha Thi Phuong (Hai Phong), to participate in officiating at the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Paris 2024 – Preliminary Competition – AFC – Round 3 – First Leg
These two female referees and assistant referees will officiate at the match between the DPR Korea Women’s Team and the Japan Women’s Team taking place on February 24, 2024 in Pyongyang, DPR Korea. This is a match between two of the strongest teams in Asia, the Japan women’s football team is also among the top strongest women’s teams in the world. Therefore, the fact that referee Le Thi Ly was trusted by FIFA to give the opportunity to be the main referee of this match is an honor and gradually affirms the capacity of Vietnamese referees in the region.
Referee Le Thi Ly is one of three FIFA referees in Vietnam, and is also a senior referee of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), regularly appointed to run official tournaments and matches. In 2023, referee Le Thi Ly has also been appointed to the Qualifying Round 1 of the AFC U20 Women’s Championship in Thailand, SEA Games 32 in Cambodia, Qualifying round 2 of the AFC U20 Women’s Championship in Myanmar, AFF U19 football championship in Indonesia , Asian Games in Wenzhow, Paris 2024 Olympic Qualifying Round 2 in China, AFC Club women’s football tournament in Chonburi – Thailand.
