Vietnam’s Olympic football squad on September 22 secured first place in Group H after stunning Kyrgyzstan 1-0 at the ongoing 17th Asian Games (ASIAD 17) in the Republic of Korea.
Striker Vu Minh Tuan scored the only goal for Vietnam from a penalty shot in the 63rd minute of the game after Kyrgyzstan captain Baimatov fell down in the box, touching the ball with his hand.
Nineteen minutes later, Hoang Thinh failed to extend Vietnam’s lead due to his unsuccessful strike from a pass by his teammate Vu Minh Tuan.
When the match had 6 minutes to go, Doroginskii of Kyrgyzstan missed a chance to hammer in despite a 5m kick from the net.
With the win, Vietnam top Group H and cruise to the knock-out round of the Games.
Earlier, Toshiya Miura’s players made a landslide victory over Iranians 4-1 in their opener.
