Coach Philippe Troussier shortened the list of U22 Vietnam, bid farewell to 7 players
After the practice match with Ho Chi Minh City Club, coach Philippe Troussier had a meeting with his assistants before making the decision to shorten the list of U22 Vietnam team to 24 players.
This means 7 players will have to say goodbye to their teammates. They are goalkeeper Tran Trung Kien, defenders Ha Van Phuong, Tran Van Thang, midfielders Nguyen Nam Truong, Nguyen Huu Nam, Nguyen Duc Viet and striker Pham Dinh Duy. Among these seven players, Ha Van Phuong, Tran Van Thang and Nguyen Duc Viet are the three names who attended the U23 Cup international friendly tournament in Doha in March.
The selection of 24 players to the shortlist has been carefully calculated by coach Philippe Troussier, with the same criteria as he once shared, which is the priority given to factors who can play versatile as well as are familiar with the philosophy of the game that he is building for U22 Vietnam. This is necessary because according to the regulations of the SEA Games 32 men’s football rules, each team is only allowed to register a maximum of 20 players.
Before announcing the shortlist, coach Philippe Troussier also spent time talking and encouraging players who were not in the selection. The French coach emphasized that U22 Vietnam’s task in 2023 is not only the 32nd SEA Games but also many important tasks ahead. Therefore, the players need to continue to strive to always be in a state of readiness for the return day.
As planned, on the afternoon of April 24, the U22 Vietnam team will have another practice match with the “green army” of Ba Ria Vung Tau club. On the afternoon of April 25, the team will move to Ho Chi Minh City to prepare for a flight to Cambodia on the morning of April 26.
In the group stage of the 32nd SEA Games men’s football, U22 Vietnam will play the opening match against Laos U22 on April 30. Earlier, at the technical meeting, U22 Vietnam will finalize the official list of 20 players and retain one more backup goalkeeper.
