Công An Hà Nôi FC reach inaugural ASEAN Shopee Cup™ Final as second-half goals down PSM Makassar
(30 April 2025) – Vietnam’s Công An Hà Nội FC booked their place in next month’s ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup™ final on Wednesday as Mano Polking’s side handed PSM Makassar of Indonesia a 2-0 defeat in Hanoi’s Hang Day Stadium to complete a 2-1 aggregate victory.

The Vietnamese side trailed 1-0 after the first leg earlier in the month, but second half goals from Hugo Gomes and Bui Hoang Viet Anh mean Công An Hà Nội will take on either BG Pathum United FC or Buriram United FC in the two-legged final.
Having lost the opening game in Pare Pare, Công An Hà Nội quickly sought to level the aggregate score with Jason Pendant looping an early header over the bar. Moments later, the France-born defender struck a long-range effort that flew high over the target.

Vitao flashed a shot narrowly wide of the right post while Alan Grafite saw another effort bobble the wrong side of the other upright as Công An Hà Nội continued to dominate. Viet Anh header was off target at a Quang Hai corner.
It was a surprise that the teams reached the interval level, but Công An Hà Nội turned their superiority into goals early in the second half.
Gomes opened the scoring on the night in the 48th minute, sweeping the ball into the top corner after the PSM Makassar defence were unable to clear a Quang Hai corner from the right that eventually dropped inside the six-yard box.
Twelve minutes later, the Vietnamese outfit doubled their second-leg advantage and went ahead on aggregate as Pendant’s ball into the penalty area was not cleared and, after controlling possession with his first touch, Viet Anh bent his shot into the bottom corner.
PSM Makassar were unable to find a way back into the game to allow Công An Hà Nội to secure a win that will see them play either Buriram United or BG Pathum United in the final over two legs on 14 and 21 May.
Buriram United lead the all-Thai League 1 semi-final clash 3-1 after the first leg. The second half of their encounter will be held in Pathum Thani on 7 May.
