They are around 100 volunteers who are ready to serve the largest event in the history of Vietnam football, which will take place from July 7-29.
These volunteers will be present at hot points” when the final round of Asian Cup 2007 takes place in Vietnam, for example the airport, stadiums and hotels.
Enthusiasm, whole-heartedness, and hospitability of Vietnamese volunteers have made them right hands” of the organising board of Asian Cup in Vietnam.
In recent football events, considered rehearsals” for Asian Cup 2007, football officials, international guests and football teams have expressed satisfaction with the professionalism of these volunteers.
To be selected as volunteers for the upcoming Asian Cup in Vietnam, second and third-year students at Hanoi University had to pass many rounds of tests.
In early 2007, the Protocol Sub-committee of the final round of Asian Cup 2007 began to select volunteers for the event. After two rounds of interviews, nearly 100 students were chosen.
These students will work for four sub-committees: Advertising, Protocol, Marketing and Security.
According to requirements of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), volunteers must be proficient in at least one foreign language English. In addition, they must be active, whole-hearted and friendly.
Four training courses on communication skills and specialised skills have equipped volunteers with professional style.
SWe are taught everything, even small details such as Muslim women don”t shake hands and Muslim people don”t eat pork, etc. I and my friends understand that as the host country, we have to minimise mistakes,⬝ said Chu Tien Loi, a third-year student at Hanoi University.
Volunteers practiced at three international friendly matches between the Vietnam Olympic squad and Indonesia, Jamaica and Bahrain to learn experience.
SThe recent friendly matches showed that Vietnam”s volunteers are very professional in communication and specialised skills,⬝ said a communications official of AFC.
The Asian Cup 2007 will take place during their summer vacation but the students consider it their responsibility and honour to be part of the largest football event of Asia, which will be held in Vietnam for the first time.
International friends will surely make comparisons between the organisational works of the four host countries of Asian Cup. Vietnamese volunteers hope that through their performance they can help Vietnam be chosen to host bigger sports events.
