Inspiring Women’s Football on International Women’s Day (March 8)
On March 6, at Can Tho Stadium, the Vietnam Football Federation, in coordination with the Can Tho Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Can Tho Department of Education and Training, and the Can Tho Football Federation, organized an exchange program in response to the AFC Women’s Football Day 2026.
This is the first time the AFC Women’s Football Day 2026 has been held in Can Tho. The event carries special significance in celebration of International Women’s Day (March 8), contributing to honoring the beauty, confidence and aspirations of women through football.
The program was attended by representatives of the Vietnam Football Federation, leaders of local departments and agencies, along with the participation of 150 female student-athletes from primary schools across Can Tho city. The presence of these young “players” created a vibrant atmosphere filled with energy and inspiration.
AFC Women’s Football Day is an annual initiative of the Asian Football Confederation, implemented widely across its member associations to promote the development of women’s football, while also affirming the role and position of women in sports and in social life. Beyond being a platform for exchange, learning and skill development, the event also helps nurture passion and strengthen the confidence of young girls to boldly pursue their dreams.
Held in Can Tho for the first time, the festival featured a variety of activities such as football exchanges, basic skills training sessions, and team-building games under the guidance of coaches and instructors. Through these activities, the students not only experienced the joy of playing football but were also inspired by the values of teamwork, determination in overcoming challenges, and an active, positive lifestyle.
On this occasion, the Vietnam Football Federation presented 20 footballs and 150 sets of sports kits to the participating primary school students. These practical gifts not only help improve training conditions but also reflect the federation’s commitment to supporting the long-term development of women’s football from the grassroots and school levels.
Through the AFC Women’s Football Day 2026, the image of young female players confidently and energetically playing on the pitch has become a beautiful symbol of a new generation of Vietnamese women — resilient, healthy and courageous in pursuing their passions.
The event also delivered a meaningful message to the community on the occasion of International Women’s Day (March 8): sport serves as a bridge that enables women to shine, affirm their self-worth, and make positive contributions to society.
