VIE 0-6 PRK: Choe hails DPRK’s dynamic duo

DPR Korea coach Choe Kwang-sok highlighted the contributions of Yun Hyon-hi and Jon Myong-hwa after the strike duo tore Vietnam apart in a 6-0 drubbing at Wuhan Sports Culture Stadium to book their place in the semi-finals of the AFC U-19 Women’s Championships.

Jon grabbed a first-half hat-trick while Yun netted a brace, including the opener from the spot, as the Koreans ran riot against a plucky but limited Vietnam side in the Group A clash.

Having established a 4-0 advantage by half-time, the result was never in doubt and also means southern neighbours KoreaRepublic also qualify for the last four.

Jon and Yun  also lead the way in the scoring charts and Choe is delighted with the pair’s form.

“I was impressed with how they played,” he said.

“They have their own fitness programme and tactics so maybe that’s why it is easy for them to score.”

It was another commanding performance from the Koreans following their opening 4-0 triumph over Thailand but Choe insisted he was only focused on three points rather than laying down any marker for the rest of the tournament.

“We prepared for this match so that all our players could play to their potential during the 90 minutes.

“We were not concerned which match was and then what kind of match the next match is going to be. We were not concerned about that. We just did our best.”

It was another tough evening for a plucky Vietnam side that had already lost 3-0 toKoreaRepublic on Sunday as they were again outclassed by superior opponents, a fact recognised by boss Tran Ngoc Thai Tuan who paid tribute to his players and their spirited performance despite the heavy defeat.

“I am very happy with the way our players played tonight,” he said.

“I think they did their best.

“Vietnam came into this tournament knowing that DPR Korea and KoreaRepublic are in reality too strong for us and they were the best two teams in this group.”
