Leaders of VFF join the AFC 32nd Congress
On the afternoon of May 18, the 32nd Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Congress was held in both live and online platform, with the participation of representatives of member associations. The VFF delegation attended the Congress included Vice President Cao Van Chong and General Secretary Le Hoai Anh. VFF Acting President Tran Quoc Tuan attended the Congress as a member of the AFC Executive Committee. The Congress was also honored to welcome the presence of FIFA President, Mr. Gianni Infantino.
At the 32nd AFC Congress, AFC President – Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa highly appreciated the efforts of the member associations in restoring and maintaining stability in the development of the football system after the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic. He emphasized: “The football in the member countries of the AFC is on the way to recovery. Even the impact of the Omicron variant, AFC also opened 2022 smoothly, successfully and safely with the 2022 Women’s Asian Cup; the third qualifying round of the World Cup 2022; the final of the AFC Champions League 2021 and the group stage of the 2022 AFC Champions League as well as the AFC Cup 2022 and the 2022 Asian Futsal Qualifiers.”
The AFC President thanks the efforts and persistence of the member association. During the most challenging period, the spirit of solidarity and energy of the whole Asia was brought into full play. Thanks to that, Asian football is gradually returning, safely and developing. In addition, the AFC President highly appreciated the progress of human and technology development programs, especially referee training in recent years.
In addition, Mr. Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa also on behalf of the Asian Football Confederation, thanked FIFA for the attention and support of FIFA and FIFA President Gianni Infantino personally, especially during the difficult period of Asian football due to effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
At the congress, AFC President Salman Bin Ibrahim Al-Khalifa excitedly said that the AFC Executive Committee had unanimously approved the decision of the AFC Development Board on two new development programs. These are the Advantage Programme and the Extra-Time Programme – further reinforces our commitment to member associations. These two programs will include AFC’s support packages for member associations that meet the set conditions, focusing on projects on personnel with an important role such as high-level football coaches, technical experts, development projects of member associations. The AFC hopes that the two new development programs mentioned above will contribute to narrowing the gap in qualifications, improving the competitiveness of Asian football as well as helping Asian football have a stronger development in the world level.
Also on this occasion, Mr. Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa confirmed his candidacy for re-election as AFC President in 2023, at the 33rd AFC Congress held in Bahrain in February next year.
