Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan moderates the first meeting in 2022 of the AFC Competition Committee
In the afternoon of Jan 10, as Chairman of AFC Competition Committee, VFF Acting President Tran Quoc Tuan directly moderated the AFC Competition Committee’s webinar about the plan to organise Asian tournaments in 2022 and subsequent years.
This is the first webinar of the committee in 2022 and focused on the adjustment of the match’s schedule and technical in the tournament’s organisation. Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan stated that the ambition of these changes toward the synchronization between the AFC competition system and the FIFA competition system, as well as increasing the professional quality and commercial value of the tournaments, especially for the youth tournament system from U17, U20 to U23 Asia. In addition, AFC also restructured the number of foreign players allowed to use when participating in the AFC Champions League and AFC Cup with the principle of creating favorable conditions for Asian players to play more matches and encouraging teams to use locally trained players.
Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan also shared one of the key content is proposing not to apply the principle of area division when drawing and dividing tables at youth tournaments. This is considered to give developing region teams more opportunities to improve by playing against strong teams not only in their region but also in other regions. . Technically, highly qualified teams will be able to participate in the finals without the restriction on participation for each East or West region like the old format, thereby improving the quality and value commercial for tournaments.
The proposals will be considered and discussed by the AFC Competition Committee in the next meeting, which will take place on Jan 20.
