AFC – Vision Vietnam, the strategic plan for football development, was discussed in detail and agreed at a two-day workshop which concluded this afternoon at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur.
Key development strategies will be implemented in seven key areas:
I. VFF is statutes and administrative structure
II. Professional competitions and clubs
III. Grassroots and youth development
IV. Coach education
V. Referees Development
VI. Marketing
VII. Communications
The programmes for the above will be implemented according to the agreed time-line, expected to start as soon as next month.
Both AFC and VFF are convinced that the combincation of the agreed strategies will result in major advances in football in Vietnam.
Two provinces in Vietnam, Nghe An and Long An, have been selected for pilot projects for grassroots and youth programmes. Experts from AFC”s Vision Asia staff will visit the provinces for four days next June and will design specific football development programmes for children and youth of all ages starting with those in the elementary stages.
VFF President, Mr Mai Liem Truc, expressed his confidence that the 2-day discussions has laid ground for future successes. We have agreed on the Vision Vietnam programmes to be launched and implemented on an on-going basis. The plans will be presented and discussed at our Congress in April and for us, that will be the first step in our long journey to rebuild Vietnamese football. I”m convinced with the cooperation from both sides, we will manage, Mai said.
Meanwhile, AFC General Secretary, Dato Peter Velappan in his closing speech was equally as confident. We are partners of VFF and look forward to Vietnam taking the first step forward. The spirit to listen, learn, discuss and develop that has been shown by the delegation here in Kuala Lumpur has been excellent. That”s why we are convinced that success will be theirs, Velappan said.
