Hosts Vietnam are now in the driving seat to win the title of the Southeast Asian women”s open championship in Ho Chi Minh City after their second victory, beating Thailand 3-2 on May 31.

Hosts Vietnam are now in the driving seat to win the title of the Southeast Asian women”s open championship in Ho Chi Minh City after their second victory, beating Thailand 3-2 on May 31.

In the first half, the Vietnamese midfield with Kim Chi, Thi Ly and Thi Huong and wide midfielders Kim Hong and Van Thi Thanh outclassed their Thai opponents. The Vietnamese side created many scoring opportunties. In the 33rd minute, Hai Anh”s long shot deflected the Thai goalkeeper before bouncing the cross bar and falling to Hoai Thu”s path but the Vietnamese striker”s heading finish was not strong enough to find the net.
 
The home side”s fans had to wait until the 40th minute to celebrate as Hoai Thu ghosted past goalkeeper Kanyawee to put the ball into the empty net.
 
Seven minutes after the break, Kim Chi made it 2-0 for the hosts.
 
However, in the 54th minute, the Thai side pulled back a goal before levelling in the 75th minute after a mistake by goalkeeper Khanh Ly.
 
Substitute Huyen Linh sealed a 3-2 victory in injury time.
 
The Vietnamese side have earned a total of six points after two games.
 
In another match, Taiwan outplayed Myanmar to win 3-0.
