Malaysia adopted a tight defensive strategy with quick counterattacks against the Vietnam futsal team, which made it difficult for Đức Hòa and his teammates to create significant scoring opportunities. During the first 20 minutes, the players under coach Diego Giustozzi struggled to generate many dangerous shots on goal due to Malaysia’s disciplined marking and limited spaces for Vietnam’s forwards to exploit. Furthermore, whenever Malaysia regained possession, they transitioned rapidly into attack, with their quick breaks posing a real threat to the Vietnamese defense. Fortunately, Vietnam’s goalkeeper, Văn Tú, was in excellent form, making crucial saves to prevent what could have been clear goals for Malaysia.

The situation remained largely unchanged in the second half as the Vietnam futsal team continued to struggle against the disciplined style of play from Malaysia. A key moment came in the 25th minute when, from a corner kick, Thịnh Phát’s header found the back of the net. Initially, the referee awarded the goal, but after a protest from the Malaysian players, the referee team consulted and decided to disallow the goal. However, Vietnam’s joy came just a minute later, in the 26th minute, when Danial handled the ball inside the penalty area, leading to a penalty kick. Minh Quang stepped up and calmly converted the penalty, giving Vietnam a 1-0 lead.

Following the goal, Malaysia applied significant pressure on Vietnam’s defense. Nevertheless, in a game marked by precise positioning and sharp reflexes, goalkeeper Văn Tú thwarted Malaysia’s efforts with crucial saves, inspiring confidence in his teammates to push forward. In the 32nd minute, Thịnh Phát confirmed that confidence by scoring a powerful long-range shot, extending the lead to 2-0. Malaysia then switched to a power-play strategy in hopes of finding a comeback, but despite their efforts, they were unable to break through Vietnam’s disciplined defense.

After the match, coach Diego Giustozzi said: “I think we need to show a lot of respect for our opponents because they are a good team. I believe Malaysia gave their best today, and the Vietnam team also played to the best of our ability. Today, Vietnam played very well both technically and tactically. This is very important because if we win tomorrow, we could advance to the semifinals.”

Coach Giustozzi further shared: “In the first half, we played well. In the second half, I think Malaysia performed better, and I told the players they needed to regain control of the game’s tempo. I have confidence in my team; I know my players well.”

Today’s Group B matches concluded with Myanmar drawing 3-3 with Australia, while Indonesia defeated Cambodia 9-0.

Tomorrow, at 3:30 PM, the Vietnam futsal team will face Brunei.
