The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) Saturday signed a VND1 billion insurance contract for U23 football players at the upcoming SEA Games with the PetroVietnam Insurance Joint Stock Corporation (PVI) in Hanoi.

This is a free contract provided by PVI, which committed to insure the health of members of the national men”s football team and the U-23 national football squad from December 1, 2007 to December 31, 2008. The maximum claim for each injury will be VND100 million.

PVI will pay for the injuries of football players during their training courses and their participation in matches of the national squads from now to the end of 2008.

PVI”s representative Bui Van Thuan said that PVI would also pay for injuries that occurred while footballers played for the national team but were not discovered until after players had returned to their local clubs.

Thuan also said that if the insurance sum of VND1 billion was spent while the insurance time was still valid, PVI and VFF would join hands to seek solutions to protect the health of footballers.

The U-23 team will leave for Thailand tomorrow, November 27.
