Vietnam Football Federation and Park Hang Seo confirm end of five-year journey
17/10/2022 12:59:38Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and the head coach of Vietnam men’s national football team – Mr. Park Hang Seo – have come to a mutual agreement to finish the current contract by the end of the termination date on 31 January 2023.
The mutual decision between VFF and Mr. Park means Mr. Park Hang Seo’s final tournament with the Vietnam national team will be the forthcoming 2022 AFF Championship in December.
During his tenure as the head coach of Vietnam men’s football since October 2017, Vietnam’s football achievements stand unprecedented beyond Vietnam football history and remain highly recognized in the history of Asian football.
Under the management of Mr. Park Hang-seo, Vietnam returned to the top 100 in the FIFA Ranking on 19 November 2018 as the top country among ASEAN nations. Vietnam continues to hold the longest period for an ASEAN nation to be registered in the top 100 of FIFA ranking.

I cherish the memories I shared in my 5-year journey with Vietnam football. As the coach of both the U-23 and senior team, my focus was always on each tournament. Regardless of the results, I was able to complete my responsibilities all due to the endless support I received from the players, VFF staff, and the people of Vietnam. Again, it has been an unbelievable and delightful journey.
I understand the extent of love and support I received during my time in Vietnam. Although I am leaving my position, I will continue to dedicate myself to returning your support in the near future. I express my sincere gratitude for your loving support, again.
When I was appointed in 2017, I shared my desire to bridge the relationship between Korea and Vietnam in every aspect of life including football. This desire still remains deeply within me, and I will continue to have a role in establishing the two nation’s friendship.

The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) would like to express its sincere gratitude to Mr.
Park Hang Seo for his outstanding efforts and commitments over the past 5 years.
With a strong sense of responsibility, professionalism and dedication in his work – together with the unity and fighting spirit of the coaching staff and players, the great support from VFF and sponsors/partners, and the much-needed encouragements from the Vietnamese government and fans – Mr. Park led the Vietnam Men’s National Team and Men’s U23 National Team to receive a lot of exceptional achievements. Some of them are historical successes for Vietnamese football. These are the inspiration and motivation for us to chase toward higher goals in the future.
The upcoming AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2022 will be his last competition with the national team. VFF believes Mr. Park will try his best to achieve the highest possible results with the Vietnam Men’s National Team, ending a remarkable 5-year journey in his professional career.
We wish Mr. Park and his family good health and happiness. We hope that Mr. Park will continue playing his part in maintaining and strengthening the good friendship between the two countries – Vietnam and Republic of Korea.
Both parties came to this agreement with a friendly understanding and wished for each other’s prosperous future. Despite the end of contract relationship, both VFF and Mr. Park have agreed to maintain a close relationship as respective partners.
