Vietnam futsal team is gathering to prepare for the 2024 AFF Futsal Championship
Today (October 10), Vietnam futsal team, led by head coach Diego Raul Giustozzi, has reconvened in Ho Chi Minh City to officially begin preparations for the 2024 AFF Futsal Championship.
Regarding the squad, coach Diego Raul Giustozzi has called up a total of 20 players for the training camp. Notably, there is a strong emphasis on youth, featuring promising talents in Vietnamese futsal, including newcomers in their twenties like Ala Vũ Ngọc Ánh and pivo Nguyễn Đa Hải. This duo recently had a successful season in the 2024 U20 National Futsal Championship with Thái Sơn Bắc Club and participated in two friendly matches against U19 Russia while representing the U19 Vietnamese futsal team. Coach Giustozzi’s decision to give opportunities to young players is seen as essential for developing a quality future squad for the national team.
Additionally, the Argentine coach continues to place his trust in experienced veterans such as goalkeeper Hồ Văn Ý, Fixo Phạm Đức Hòa, Ala Châu Đoàn Phát, Ngô Ngọc Sơn, Trần Thái Huy, and pivo Nguyễn Thịnh Phát. The most notable absence is pivo Nguyễn Minh Trí, who is currently undergoing rehabilitation after an injury.
According to the plan, the Vietnamese futsal team will train at the Q8 Ho Chi Minh City Futsal Club stadium until October 25, when they will travel to Thailand for a training camp ahead of the 2024 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship. In Thailand, the Vietnamese team is scheduled to play two friendly matches: against Hongyen Thakam FC (Thailand)—the team that defeated Thái Sơn Nam 5-1 in the semifinals of the 2023 Southeast Asian Club Futsal Championship—on October 27, and against the Australian team on October 29.
The 2024 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship will take place from November 2 to November 10 in Thailand, featuring nine teams divided into two groups. Group A includes five teams: Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei, and Timor Leste. Group B consists of Indonesia, Myanmar, Australia, and Cambodia.
Teams will compete in a round-robin format to accumulate points for ranking within each group. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals.
