Vietnam U20 Team depart for training camp in Japan ahead of AFC U20 Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers
On the morning of 7 August, the Vietnam U20 team departed for Japan for a training camp in preparation for the AFC U20 Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers. The training camp, taking place from 7 to 17 August, is expected to provide the coaching staff with an opportunity to further assess the squad, improve the team’s overall performance and finalise tactical plans ahead of their qualifying campaign on home soil.
Prior to their departure, the Vietnam U20 team regrouped on 3 August at the Vietnam Football Federation’s Youth Football Training Centre with a squad of 30 players. The current squad features several players who gained valuable experience at the 2026 AFF U19 Championship in June, along with a number of promising additions, including Nguyễn Văn Khánh, Bạch Trọng Dương, Lê Tấn Dũng, Nguyễn Văn Bách, Nguyễn Thiên Phú, Trần Gia Bảo and Lê Văn Hoàn.
Following the first training sessions, the team quickly settled into the programme, demonstrating a serious attitude and strong determination to achieve positive results in the AFC U20 Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers.
During the training camp in Japan, the coaching staff will focus on improving the players’ fitness, refining the team’s playing style and providing opportunities to gain further experience through friendly matches arranged with support from the Japan Football Association (JFA). After completing the training camp on 17 August, the Vietnam U20 team will return home for the final stage of preparations before competing in Group C of the AFC U20 Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers, scheduled to take place from 31 August to 6 September at Việt Trì Stadium in Phú Thọ.
In the qualifiers, Vietnam U20 will face Iran, DPR Korea and Palestine in succession. The group is considered highly competitive, with Iran among the top seeds and one of Asia’s most established youth football nations. Meanwhile, DPR Korea and Palestine also boast competitive squads, promising a series of challenging encounters.
With the advantage of playing on home soil and thorough preparations, including the training camp in Japan, the Vietnam U20 team will aim for a strong performance in the AFC U20 Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers and compete for a place in the finals.
