Friendly Match in Japan: Vietnam Women’s Futsal Team gains experience against hosts
On April 25, as part of their training camp in preparation for the AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup 2025 in China, the Vietnam women’s futsal team played their second friendly match against Japan. Despite a 1-4 loss, coach Nguyễn Đình Hoàng’s players gained valuable experience for their upcoming journey on the continental stage.
Facing a technically skilled opponent with strong ball control—currently ranked 10th in the FIFA futsal rankings—the Vietnam women’s futsal team chose a defensive approach. However, in the 13th minute, from a left corner kick, Eguchi Mika fired directly toward Vietnam’s goal, and Ikadai Risa cleverly deflected the ball to open the scoring for Japan.
After conceding the opening goal, the Vietnamese players became even more focused in their efforts to create opportunities. However, the first half ended with a 1-0 lead for the host team.
In the second half, just one minute in, Iwasaki Yuka successfully scored to double Japan’s lead to 2-0. The home team went on to add two more goals in the 24th and 28th minutes.
Eager to find a goal, the Vietnam women’s futsal team switched to a power play strategy with eight minutes left on the clock. After persistent attacking efforts, they finally broke through Japan’s defense with just 31 seconds remaining. From a play down the flank and a low cross into the box, Thu Xuân finished precisely to score a consolation goal for Vietnam.
Despite the loss, the match provided valuable takeaways as the team had the opportunity to test various lineups and tactical responses to different situations, all in preparation for the AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup 2025 in Hohhot, China this May.
