Two-time champions Hoang Anh Gia Lai pulled a fast one on V-League leader Becamex Binh Duong 2-0 in the 20th round at their home Pleiku Stadium yesterday.

Two-time champions Hoang Anh Gia Lai pulled a fast one on V-League leader Becamex Binh Duong 2-0 in the 20th round at their home Pleiku Stadium yesterday.

The win pushed the Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands) team one, step closer to Binh Duong, who are still leading V-League with 43 points after their second loss of the championship since it started in January.
Seven minutes into the game, Gia Lai”s Agostinho Petromlode De Olivera Filho hit Nguyen Tang Tuan with a one-two in the penalty area. But Tuan could not beat Binh Duong”s keeper Nguyen The Anh in the face-to-face, missing a goal.
Binh Duong displayed the power that has launched them to the top of the V-League. Nigerian goal hunter Amaobi Uzo Wuru met national team member Nguyen Vu Phong”s low right cross and sent a powerful volley to the target – but it sailed just wide of the bar.
After a goalless first half, the hosts opened the score in the 69th minute to stun the V-League leaders. In a counterattack on the right, midfielder Van Kiet lobbed the ball into the 18-yard box. Brazilian striker Agostinho Petronilode De Olivera Filho outjumped Binh Duong”s defenders to stun former national keeper The Anh with a powerful header to the far corner of the net.
Even with a lineup chock full of national team members, including Vu Nhu Thanh, Nguyen Vu Phong and Huynh Quang Thanh, Binh Duong could not break the hosts” defence to net the ball.
Four minutes to the last whistle, Thai playmaker Thonglao scored to help clinch Gia Lai”s win over Binh Duong. The Thai national team midfielder trapped a crucial cross from 33-year-old veteran Nguyen Van Dan, who escaped an offside trap, and fired a close shot to the net.
Defending champions Dong Tam Long An beat Da Nang 2-0 yesterday. Hosts Ha Noi ACB crushed Southern Steel Sai Gon Port 3-1 at Hang Day Stadium, while Hoa Phat Ha Noi drew Dong Thap 0-0.
Halida Thanh Hoa swallowed a bitter 2-1 loss at home to TCDK Song Lam Nghe An.
Nam Dinh edged bottom place Huda Hue 2-1, while Pisico Binh Dinh beat Khatoco Khanh Hoa 1-0.
