Hai Duong win junior football tournament

Hai Duong beat Gia Lai 4-1 in the final of the National Children”s Football Tournament Yamaha Cup, on August 3.

Hai Duong, who beat defending champions Khanh Hoa 4-1 in the quarter-finals and Binh Dinh 4-2 in the semi-finals on Thursday, scored two early goals, thanks to nifty footwork by Nguyen Van Toan and Nguyen Van Anh in the 5th and 6th minutes, respectively.

Gia Lai, who beat Dac Lac 3-2 on penalties after drawing 1-1 in the semi-finals, responded aggressively to their early setbacks, but failed to make the most of their chances.

In the 13th minute, striker Toan showed Gia Lai how to do it by scoring Hai Duong”s third and his 6th of the tournament.

After the break, a reinvigorated Gia Lai went all out to break their duck. In the 27th minute a penalty by Gia Lai hit the post, but just one minute later, Pen succeeded in finding the back of the net.

However, Hai Duong sealed victory in the 37th minute thanks to a goal by Vu Van Thanh.

After the match, organisers named the tournament”s ten best players – three of whom came from Gia Lai and three from Dac Lac.

The tournament, which attracted 16 teams nationwide, was held at the Military Zone 7 Gymnasium in HCM City.
