The AFC Women”s Committee today confirmed their support of Australia as the host of AFC”s top women”s competition, the AFC Women”s Asian Cup 2006 (formerly known as the AFC Women”s Championship), which will take place from 16-30 July 2006.

The AFC Women”s Committee today confirmed their support of Australia as the host of AFC”s top women”s competition, the AFC Women”s Asian Cup 2006 (formerly known as the AFC Women”s Championship), which will take place from 16-30 July 2006.

This will be the Football Federation of Australia”s first time as a host of an official AFC competition, since they joined the AFC on 1st January 2006.

AFC President, Mohamed bin Hammam, commented today: SAsia has been a frontrunner in the development of women”s football in recent years, and I am sure that our newest member association will provide a fitting platform to showcase our best women”s teams in AFC.⬝

AFC will conduct an inspection visit on 25-26 February 2006. The venue will be announced in the week beginning Monday 6 March 2006.
