Mr. Khiev Sameth – AFF President “I look forward to Vietnam National Team’s presence in the 2026 World Cup”
On October 1, the 2023 Ordinary Congress of AFF takes place in HCM City. During this organization, AFF has trusted the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) to host this important event. On the occasion of the event, Mr. Khiev Sameth – AFF President spent time discussing Vietnam’s organizational work as well as forecasting the development of Vietnamese football.

– Sir, Vietnam is trusted by AFF to host the 2023 AFF Ordinary Congress. How do you evaluate the organizational work of VFF?
– AFF in general and I personally always appreciate the role and positive dynamism of VFF in the overall development of Southeast Asian football. From an organizational perspective, VFF have experience and demonstrated professionalism by successfully hosting many important events in Southeast Asian and Asian football. This is what makes AFF feel very secure and confident. VFF President Tran Quoc Tuan and I regularly exchange information and I know VFF is very serious in preparing for the event. In fact, when I was present in Ho Chi Minh City to attend the AFF Ordinary Congress, I was very impressed with the organization of VFF and highly appreciated this preparation. VFF did a good job from logistics to organizing the main event. I am very satisfied with what VFF has done.
– What does AFF evaluate about VFF’s role in the overall development of regional football?
– AFF respects and appreciates VFF’s role in the overall development of Southeast Asian football. In these changes, there is a positive and dynamic contribution from VFF, especially Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan – VFF President. With enthusiasm, experience and relationships, Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan and other members of Southeast Asian football actively brought the image of regional football to the international level. Besides, Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan often has very practical contributions to strengthen the football competition system of Southeast Asia. These positive changes have impacted regional football performance.
The fact that the AFF Congress welcomed representatives of FIFA, AFC and representatives of the European Football Federation shows that the role of AFF in international football is undergoing positive changes. AFF believes that with the active participation of VFF President Tran Quoc Tuan, Southeast Asian football will reach Asia and the world. Vietnamese football and Southeast Asian football will work together for common development.
– What are your expectations for the development of Vietnamese Football?
– In recent times, Vietnamese football has achieved impressive achievements and has always shown to be the flagship of Southeast Asian football in the international arena, especially the Vietnamese women’s team won the right for the first time participating in the 2023 Women’s World Cup. This shows that VFF has the right strategy and direction in football management, administration and development. I know that Vietnam National Team is aiming for World Cup 2026. I personally look forward to Vietnam National Team participating in World Cup 2026 and I believe that you will achieve your goal.
AFF is very happy to witness the progress of Vietnamese football through each stage. With the cooperation of members of the Vietnamese football family, we believe that Vietnamese football will make stronger strides. The success of Vietnamese football is also the common pride of Southeast Asian football.
