Chinh missed at least five opportunities in the match, and one of his shots hit the pole in the 84th minute.

The draw gave Viet Nam one point to keep them at second position in Group B with four points. Malaysia are on top with seven points but they have played one match more than Viet Nam.

In the next round tomorrow, Viet Nam will play Singapore while Malaysia face Myanmar.

In an earlier game of the group, East Timor tied with Myanmar 1-1.

It was a stunning start as East Timor blasted the fastest goal of the tournament when they shot ahead in the very first minute.

Myanmar, however, scored in the last minute to walk away with a precious draw at the National Sports Complex Stadium.

East Timor’s goal scorer Gelvanio Alberto timed his slide to perfection and connected the ball just 43 seconds into the game.

After several misses, Myanmar had their best chance in the 88th minute. Aung Zin Phyo crossed into the box with Aung Kaung Mann racing in from the rear. He had a good shot but it came off the bar to the utter despair of the team. Just when it all looked over, Zin Phyo headed the ball over an out-of-position Timor goalkeeper to score the all-important equaliser.

The one point goes a long way for Myanmar as they are now at third position in the group. Meanwhile, it was Timor’s first after they lost their first two matches to Malaysia and Viet Nam.

Myanmar will next meet Viet Nam on August 31 while Timor’s rivals will be Singapore.
