The national men”s and women”s football squads have finalised their preparations for competition at the Games 15 in Quatar.
Returning to Hanoi from the Bach Viet Cup in HCM City, the U23 + 3 team of coach Alfred Riedl has only 19 players. They are preparing for the day of departure to Qatar, November 24.
All strikers on the team are injured to different degrees. Phan Thanh Binh suffered quite a bad injury while playing in the Bach Viet Cup, but he may be fully recovered by next week.
The number-one striker on the team, Le Cong Vinh, had to discontinue practicing with the team on November 22 because of a muscle injury. Meanwhile, Nguyen Anh Duc, the top scorer of Vietnam during the Capital Cup and Agribank Cup, has just recovered from an injury to his hand.
Injuries to strikers are the biggest worries of coach Riedle for the upcoming Asiad 15.
According to the assistant coach of the national men”s football squad, Mai Duc Chung, Vietnam will have to face the Republic of Korea (RoK) and Bahrain at Asiad 15. The team aims to defeat Bangladesh and effectively protect its goal in the matches with the RoK and Bahrain.
Meanwhile, the goal of the women”s squad is to trounce Taiwan and avoid the bottom position in its group, said coach Tran Ngoc Thai Tuan.
Mr Tuan said that the Asiad 15 is an opportunity for the team to learn experience to defend its championship at the 24th SEA Games.
