Toward the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers: Vietnam U20 Women’s Team Departs for Training Camp in Japan
After 10 days of training at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center, the Vietnam U20 Women’s Team will depart for Japan tonight (July 10) for a training camp in preparation for the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup 2026 qualifiers, set to take place in early August.
During the team’s training period in Hanoi, head coach Okiyama Masahiki and his assistants focused primarily on physical conditioning, while also experimenting with the team’s tactical setup through two friendly matches—one internal scrimmage and a friendly against the Thai Nguyen U19 Women’s Club on the afternoon of July 9, which ended in a 5–2 victory for the U20 Vietnam Women’s Team.
Assessing his players, Coach Okiyama Masahiki noted that the team still has many areas that need improvement. “At the moment, the team is staying focused and following the training plan set by the coaching staff. In the match against the Thai Nguyen players, although the opponents had good pace, our U20 players performed quite well,” said Coach Okiyama.
According to the plan, the Vietnam U20 Women’s Team will have a 10-day training camp in Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, where they will play five friendly matches. These include two matches against university teams—Shizuoka Sangyo University and Aichi Toho University—and three matches against high school teams.
On July 21, the team will return to Hanoi to begin their final preparations for the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup 2026 qualifiers. In this tournament, Vietnam is placed in Group B alongside Singapore, Hong Kong (China), and Kyrgyzstan. The qualifiers will take place from August 6 to August 10 at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center.
